McNamara Irish Dinner

Back in November at the cystic fibrosis gala, Travis and I “won” a dinner. Not an ordinary dinner. A dinner that my previous doctor, Dr. McNamara, hosts at his house. With a name like McNamara, you can only guess it would be an Irish dinner! We had a great group of friends that joined us. We were greeted at the door by a bagpiper. My doctor, his wife, daughter and some of their friends help cook a delicious dinner filled with lamb, corned beef, potatoes, brown sugar carrots, Irish stew, soda bread, etc. for over twenty people! All the homemade recipes are from his wife’s grandmother in Ireland.

Dr. McNamara & me

It was so much fun to see Dr. McNamara. He was my doctor at Children’s Minneapolis until I was the age of twenty five. At that age, I finally made the transition over to the University of Minnesota. It was tough leaving him, he was my primary physician for so many years. I am so lucky the move to a new clinic was smooth for me. I love my current primary doctor, Dr. Dunitz, and my entire health team.

Since my transplant, I had stopped in a few times at Children’s to say hello to all the staff that used to take care of me. Every time I dropped by, Dr. McNamara was out of the clinic. It was so fun to see him without wearing oxygen and showing him the deep breath I can now take!

Health update: After breaking my big toe a while ago, I am FINALLY walking in a regular shoe! It has been about a week now that I haven’t strapped on the boot.

Bigger news, I experienced a four day cold. FOUR DAYS!!!! I am still not used to the fact that if I get a sniffle, it won’t always turn into a hospital stay with months of I.V. medication. I am rather enjoying it 🙂

Don’t forget tomorrow, Friday, the 27th, is the Brewer’s Ball at the TCF Bank Stadium. The proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  There is still plenty of room to join us at the event. Click here for more information. FYI, for those of you ladies that may have a little bun in the oven but your husbands want to attend, we’ll work something out so you don’t have to pay for drinking.Brewer'sLastly, one of our friends bought one of Honey’s sisters. Her name is Piper. We scheduled a puppy play date a week ago. As if it isn’t cute enough seeing Honey run around being a floppy puppy, add another pup in the mix! It was so cute! They wore each other out running around for hours. They are definitely sisters, they are so similar in their personalities.

Piper and Honey is on the right

We get asked all the time is she real or a teddy bear? We call her our little Honey bear.Honey boardwalk
