I have been waiting for the perfect pair of lungs for….1000 days. I feel blessed. Many transplant patients don’t wait or can’t wait as long as I have. When I went active on the list, I never dreamed I would wait this long. Back in June of 2010, my lung functions were about as low as they had ever been. I was convinced there was no way I would see 1000 more sunrises without the gift of a new set of lungs. Unfortunately, my lungs are much worse now. But, with increased treatments and a little luck, I’m still here….waiting for “the call”.

Nikki, we are all waiting for your call but so glad you have been literally able to suck 1000 more days out of those old, sick lungs. Look at that as a blessing. 1000 more days added onto the countless more days that you will get with your new, healthy pair of lungs. You have done so much in those 1000 days. Keep fighting, keep up whatever you are doing. I know it seems relentless and you are getting tired of the endless routine that you do everyday but you are doing a great job! Hugs!
