E60 The Best Stories In Sports

Today Travis and I were watching TV when we came across this touching story being told on ESPN’s E60 The Best Stories In Sports. It was already half way finished when we stumbled on the channel. Just then my parents called to say “turn on channel 5” I said, “we just did”. It must have been something we were all supposed to watch. I just finished watching the entire video. It hit home a little, to realize the girl has cystic fibrosis also. It is a very emotional story, hope you take the time to watch and understand the power of organ donation.

Boxer Francisco “Paco” Rodriguez told his wife, Sonia, that he wanted to be a hero. But that dream seemed shattered after Rodriguez slipped into a coma and was declared brain dead after losing a title fight in Philadelphia. Through organ donation, his uncle and four women received a gift of life.

Nikki, thank you for sharing Paco’s story.
I work at LifeSource in the Communication Center and I’m also a recipeint family member. My late husband Nick Jolly received a double lung transplant on July 11, 1996 at the U of M. Our story is on LifeSource’s blog under MN State Fair 3,236 Days.
Sharing your story brings back many memories for me pre & post transplant for Nick and our family. I share our story and encourage people to become organ, tissue and eye donors.
May your second chance at life come for you soon.

Kathy, I read your wonderful story. What a blessing, nearly nine more years to spend time with Nick. Thank you for the note. I hope to meet you someday.
